It is one of the first and thus oldest distilleries in Germany. It has not only survived both world wars and the GDR, it has also produced one or two big names over the years - for example, both Hugo Asbach and his son completed their training at Wilthen.The generic term "brandy," which was registered with the Imperial Patent Office in 1907, was a joint development of the Unternehmensverband Deutscher Cognac-Brennereien (German Cognac Distillers Association), to which Hugo Asbach's and Hünlich's companies also belonged.The Wilthen distillery was family owned from 1842 - 1951.
